Portillo’s Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients
- 1 box Devil’s Food cake mix (Duncan Hines preferred)
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup ice cold water
- 1 cup mayonnaise (Hellmann’s or similar – full fat)

- 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy Chocolate Frosting
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or one 9×13″ pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine:
- Cake mix
- Eggs
- Water
- Mayonnaise
- Mix well for about 2–3 minutes using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed, until batter is smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly into prepared pan(s).
- Bake for:
- 9-inch rounds: 30–33 minutes
- 9×13” pan: 35–38 minutes
Or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool completely before frosting.
- Frost generously with the chocolate frosting.
